Our History

NSEP is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2008 in McDonough, Georgia by Dr. M. Sebrena Jackson. As a practicing social worker for nearly 20 years, Dr. Jackson sought an opportunity to share with foster youth information about the profession that she loves.

NSEP partners with state departments of human resources, colleges and universities, and local social service agencies to offer youth rich learning experiences.

NSEP summer programs have been held on the campuses of Albany State University in Albany, Georgia, Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Alabama, Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL, and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The organization has a three-fold purpose:

1. Service: To offer foster youth an opportunity to learn more about the field of social work as a college major and career choice;

2. Academics: To encourage foster youth to complete high school, enroll in college and complete their post-secondary education; and

3. Development: To assist foster youth in the development of life-skills, employment skills, and leadership skills that will help them to achieve their personal and professional goals.
